NC-ACTE Fall Forum: Meeting the Needs of Professional Practice

Heather Bower September 18, 2017

The North Carolina Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (NC-ACTE) is preparing for another fabulous Fall Forum. This year’s theme is Meeting the Needs of Professional Practice: Tough Questions, Tough Choices for NC Educator Preparation Programs.

At the conference held September 20-22, 2017 at the North Raleigh Hilton, participants will discuss current issues, trends, and future directions in the field of teacher preparation. Seven concurrent sessions will provide participants with ample opportunities to pursue the topics of most interest to them, and the Friday morning roundtables will allow participants to share information and explore challenges with colleagues in similar roles. The opening session, luncheons, and Department of Public Instruction whole-group sessions will provide timely information that is relevant to all!

Here are your top three not-to-be missed opportunities:

  1. Undoubtedly, a highlight of the conference will be the recognition of this year’s student teacher of the year at Thursday’s reception!
  2. The opening session will highlight four key North Carolina legislators and a discussion of educational policy.
  3. Wednesday has a full day of preconference sessions that have a little something for everyone!

Thanks to the generous sponsorship of Taskstream-Tk20, the North Carolina Teacher Education Assessment Network (NC-TEAN) will be hosting its second annual preconference as one of these sessions on Wednesday from 1-5pm. This year’s speaker, Margie Crutchfield, will be sharing insights regarding CAEP’s expectations for rubrics and establishing reliability and validity. During this hands-on workshop, participants will be working with one of their own rubrics in order to gain the practice and experience necessary to take the information back to their campuses and continue this important work.
