Faculty, administrators, and assessment professionals in community colleges face a unique set of opportunities, as well as challenges, in their practice due in large part to the diverse groups of students attending these institutions, as well as the unique and varied missions of community colleges in general. This is especially true for faculty and others working in learning outcomes assessment, a field that on its own has been changing rapidly in the last several years in higher education.

In this webinar, we will look at data from the 2013 Provost Survey, commissioned by the National Institute for Learning Outcomes Assessment (NILOA) in order to investigate how learning outcomes assessment has changed in the last four years in community college settings. The 2013 Provost Survey provides information from provosts at over 1,000 institutions of higher education regarding their perceptions of the state of student learning outcomes assessment on their campuses. This survey further built on a previous 2009 survey of provosts, showing how these processes have changed over time.

In this webinar, we will:

  • Use data from the 2013 NILOA Provost Study to talk about the current state of student learning outcomes assessment in community colleges in the United States
  • Compare these findings with results from the 2009 Provost Survey in order to further understand how these processes are changing over time
  • Discuss the essential role of faculty in learning outcomes assessment and how faculty at community colleges have been and can be fully engaged in these processes
  • Provide a series of recommendations for how to support and strengthen faculty engagement in order to advance work in student learning outcomes engagement in community colleges
