4500+ students applied — more than 10 times the number of 2020 applications
Austin, TX – August 11, 2021 – Watermark, a leading higher education insights software provider, announced today the winners of the 2021 Watermark Scholarship Program. The scholarship awards two $5000 prizes to support female college students pursuing Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) – related studies and careers.
This year’s winners are Elayne Blancas, a Senior in Computer Engineering at New York University and Elizabeth Landers, a fourth-year Doctoral student in Osteopathic Medicine at Oklahoma State University.
“We remain dedicated to our commitment to elevating women in STEM education and helping unlock their career potential with these scholarships,” said Erin Shy, Watermark’s CEO. “Watermark encourages women in the pursuit of degrees in STEM fields and we want to inspire them to thrive in their careers. Our sincere Congratulations to our two 2021 STEM Scholarship winners!”
Scholarship applicants were required to submit a 500-word essay or a 2-minute video on the topic of who inspired them to pursue a career in STEM and what they are inspired to do after graduation in their careers.
This year, Watermark received more than 4500 submissions, an over 10x increase versus 2020 submissions. The Watermark Scholarship Committee assessed the submissions against rigorous criteria, including demonstration of drive and passion, clear, polished presentation skills, and engaging content.
Eligibility requirements include U.S. resident status, enrollment at a U.S. based college or university with a sophomore/second year or higher standing in a STEM degree-granting program (undergraduate or graduate) for fall 2021, or demonstrate plans to pursue a career in the STEM fields after graduation.
